What do you like most about owning property in Oakland?  It’s gratifying to purchase a neglected property and restore it to its past glory. Over the years we have crossed paths through our rentals with many interesting people from different places and backgrounds. We also connect with other residents of the neighborhood and feel that we are part of the community as well.

How would you describe your relationship with your renters? Our relationship with our tenants on a business and personal level is very good.

What concerns you most about the renter-proposed initiatives being considered in Oakland? The most troubling aspects of the tenant proposed regulations is the lack of understanding of the issues concerning housing.  It is the lack of affordable housing that is the underlying problem as well as the failure of all levels of government to adequately address this situation. To make matters worse there is an inequality in the application of regulations on rental properties solely dependent on the date of construction. It is beyond our comprehension that one class of properties falls under the law and another is exempt. This has to be addressed. This initiative makes it impossible to keep up with the costs, maintenance and the additional fees imposed by the regulatory agencies of government. It appears to us that the intent is to put us out of business.

What is the most difficult part about being a property owner in the city?  Dealing with the city bureaucracy
