Help Fight Against the Repeal of Costa-Hawkins

AB 1506, the proposed legislation to repeal the Costa-Hawkins Act, will be heard in the Assembly Housing Committee in Sacramento on Thursday, January 11 at 8:30 am. By giving rental owners the right to apply market rate rent each time a tenant moves out, Costa-Hawkins has been a lifesaver for the rental housing industry. And it also:

  • Exempts single-family homes and condos from local rent control laws
  • Exempts new construction (units built after Feb. 1, 1995) from local rent control laws, giving developers an incentive to add to the California housing stock
  • Provides incentives to owners of single-family homes and condos to place their homes on the rental market, creating even more housing in California
