San Leandro is preparing to unveil a Proposed Rent Stabilization Program Budget and a revised Draft of the Residential Rent Stabilization Ordinance. This may be one of the most consequential policy discussions the city has held in years.
Rent caps. A rent registry. New rules that will permanently shape how you operate your rental housing. On top of all that, this program will cost the city millions annually to run and staff.
This is the moment when every rental owner, property manager, and housing provider must show up, speak up, and stand united. If we don’t show up in force, the narrative will be shaped entirely by those who want stricter regulations and have no understanding of the operational realities you face every day.
What to expect:
Agenda Item 9A: Proposed Rent Stabilization Program Budget and Draft Residential Rent Stabilization Ordinance Presentation
There will be public input, and this may be our last opportunity to impact the proposed legislation and speak out against rent caps, rent registries, and the expanding regulatory burden being proposed in San Leandro. Once this ordinance is put to a vote at a future meeting, the ability to encourage the council to make changes becomes very difficult.
We must pack the council chambers. We must speak clearly and professionally. And we must ensure council members hear from the people who actually provide the housing San Leandro.
If you own a home or operate a rental property in San Leandro, your voice is essential.
