This dynamic two-part series will delve into some of the most pressing issues impacting homeownership and housing equity today. Our panel discussion (part 1) and author, Leah Rothstein (part 2), will explore homeownership and investment barriers, assess whether financial gains are truly reaching communities of color, Millennials, and Gen Z, and discuss strategies to improve access.

 

The conversation will also look at the array of homebuying assistance programs and how to navigate their complexity, as well as the rise of digital redlining and its impact on housing discrimination. Attendees will gain insights on building strategies to protect assets.

Our Panelists:

Walter Brown Jr. - Walter is a 30 plus year financial services veteran with expert experience in all phases of mortgage management and operations. He writes articles and provides interviews for broadcast radio and other media outlets. Walter assists Consumers, Financial Institutions, State and Federal officials by providing ongoing technical advice and service on selected financial matters as a subject matter expert.

Nikki Beasley - Executive Director of Richmond Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. She joined the organization in 2016 and leads transformative initiatives in affordable housing, financial empowerment, and homeownership. With a 25-year background in banking and financial services, she has expanded RNHS’ impact, launching programs that have assisted hundreds of first-time homebuyers and advanced policies addressing racial and economic disparities in housing. A recognized leader in the housing space, Nikki serves on multiple boards and advisory committees, shaping housing policy and advocacy across California.

Bill Pegg - Housing Appraiser - Bill has been appraising for 40 years and has managerial experience over a nationwide appraisal operation. Most recently, he has operated a small Firm that appraises. Single-family through four-unit properties In the Bay Area. The work he performs includes conventional loan appraisals, FHA appraisals, divorce appraisals, and appraisals for estate matters. It has been Bill’s privilege to service minority borrowers and homeowners. His expertise extends from the basics of the valuation of starter homes to multimillion-dollar estates. He believes that each property requires just consideration and a fair valuation on the merits.

Gabriel Galiothe - Experienced Investment Advisor with a demonstrated history of working in the Commercial Real Estate industry. Skilled in Apartments, Sales, Real Estate Economics, Investment Properties, and Real Estate Transactions. Strong finance professional with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) focused in Urban Land Development - Real Estate Economics from California State University, Fresno.
