About this Meeting

EBRHA’s panel of experts will discuss how Costa-Hawkins currently protects property owners/managers. If Costa-Hawkins is repealed, state imposed regulation on the ballot in November (2024) will have the following impact:

• Vacancy decontrol is lost and permanent Rent Control becomes law
• Owners won’t be able to recoup costs from retrofit mandates, as well as property modifications, improvements, and maintenance.
• All rental properties will be subject to permanent Rent Control (no exceptions)

This includes CONDOS and SINGLE FAMILY HOMES.

The repeal of Costa-Hawkins will end Vacancy Decontrol - the ability of an owner to raise the rent to a market rate after a renter moves out. ALL members should attend and get important information and your questions answered to protect your rental property business.

Activist Michael Weinstein and the AIDS Healthcare Foundation have once again qualified a 2024 ballot initiative that directly threatens your rights as a property owner. This will be their third attempt to repeal Costa-Hawkins protections for property owners and expand rent control.

To stop the so-called "Justice for Renters" initiative in 2024, the East Bay Rental Housing Association is asking for your support. We need to fight this third attempt to repeal Costa-Hawkins, led by the same anti-housing activists that failed twice with Propositions 10 and 21 from 2018 and 2020. We are helping our state affiliate, CalRHA, raise $5 million towards this campaign, so we are all in this together.
